The Truth About Weight Loss: Why the One-Size-Fits-All Approach Is Hurting People

Let’s talk about weight loss — honestly.

Over the years, I’ve seen people do everything “right” and still end up unwell. Muscle loss, digestive issues, even hospital stays… all in the name of losing weight.

The truth is: there is no one-size-fits-all.
Your blood type, biology, and body rhythms matter — and when we ignore them, the cost is often higher than we think.

In this article, I share why personalised health is the missing link in safe, sustainable weight loss — plus two real examples of what happens when your body’s needs aren’t respected.

It’s time we had an honest conversation about weight loss — one that looks beyond diets, scales, and social pressure.

For over two decades, I’ve worked in the field of personalised health. And yet, I’m still surprised (and saddened) by how many people are pursuing weight loss in ways that harm their bodies more than help them.

Here’s what most people aren’t being told:
🔚 Losing weight the wrong way often means losing muscle.
And when you lose muscle, your metabolism suffers. Your strength declines. Your long-term health — particularly as you age — is put at risk.

But that’s just the beginning.

Let me say something clearly:
Everyone is different.
Your shape, your metabolism, your energy rhythms, your health history — it all matters.

So why are we still seeing blanket advice like “go low-carb,” “do more HIIT,” or “eat less, move more”?

What I’ve seen through years of working with Epigenetics and personalised nutrition is this: your body holds the answers. When we understand it properly — from your blood type to your genetic expression and even the time of day your body functions best — weight loss stops being a guessing game and becomes a guided, sustainable journey.

Let me give you two real examples that stay with me to this day:

🔹 Rebecca, a blood type A, had been told to go on a high-protein, Paleo-style diet. But Type A bodies tend to thrive on more plant-based, calming foods. The result? She ended up in hospital with a blocked bowel. Her body simply couldn’t cope with the overload of protein and lack of fibre it wasn’t designed for.

🔹 Another client, who had proudly run a local slimming club with over 100 members, eventually turned to gastric band surgery after years of yo-yo dieting. But her health deteriorated fast. Complications followed, along with multiple hospital visits. Her story is more common than you think.

These are just two examples — but I’ve seen so many.

It’s why I feel so strongly about educating people on the whole story when it comes to weight loss.

Yes, weight loss is possible. Yes, it can be healthy and sustainable. But only when it’s personalised to your biology.
That means understanding:

  • The right foods for your unique body (not someone else’s plan)

  • The right time of day for you to eat or fast

  • The right kind of exercise for your system

  • And how your stress, sleep, and environment all play a role

If you’ve struggled with your weight, please know this: the problem isn’t your willpower. It’s the strategy.

Let’s stop punishing our bodies and start listening to them.

If you're ready to learn what works for you, I’d love to help you explore that journey.
